Attention: Parking Closure by Shari Romar

Effective Monday, November 23, 2009, QBG’s Parking Lot will be closed and remain closed until the opening of the Parking Garden in Spring 2010. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Parking Garden Update by qbgdevelopmentmarketing

Even though winter is approaching, construction is moving along on QBG’s new Parking Garden as we get ready for a Spring 2010 opening!

With a variety of paving materials to allow infiltration of water, and parking bays interrupted by planted bioswales that manage stormwater on site, the Parking Garden will accommodate 117 vehicles, and feature benches as well as new signage.

Our landscape team is installing plants right now.  The space features 10 different oak species, along with woodland understory shrubs like sassafras (Sassafras albidum) and spicebush (Lindera benzoin).  Perennials such as black-eyed Susans (Rudbeckia fulgida ‘Goldstrum’) promise to dazzle in summer while grasses like little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) will offer color and textural interest from fall into winter.

Like the Visitor & Administration Center, the Parking Garden continues QBG’s efforts to foster environmental stewardship while enhancing the visitor experience.  By managing stormwater and mitigating the urban heat island effect, we’ll transform the idea of what defines a parking area.
